| A Message from Peter R. Breggin, MD We Welcome Whistleblowers Since word first got out about the growing number of class action and fraud suits involving Ritalin, we have been getting letters and phone calls from people who have information to share with us. We welcome these communications and promise to do everything in our power to protect the privacy of anyone who comes forward. As the medical doctor who's work has inspired these cases, I will be glad to chat with you about anything you know that might be helpful to our reform efforts. Receiving valuable "inside" information isn't new for me. From the beginning of my reform work, breakthrough information has been mailed to me anonymously in envelopes with no return address, whispered to me in passing at conferences, or shared with me face-to-face in the corners of restaurants. Whistleblower information relating to any psychiatric issues or psychiatric drugs may be potentially helpful in alerting the public, media, and regulatory agencies to abuses or excesses. One brown envelope sent me a government memo that first disclosed how the U.S. Department of Justice was funding psychosurgery for the avowed purpose of controlling African-American "rioters" in the early 1970s. Another contained materials that told us in advance that the government was funding a potentially racist conference at the University of Maryland on the genetics of violence. Yet another broke the news about horrendous experiments on African-American and Hispanic children that were being conducted by universities and hospital centers in New York City. Still another anonymous letter contained evidence that NIMH was hiding some of the test results from its recent multi-center study of Ritalin. If you have information specifically relating to the Ritalin class action suit attorneys you should contact one of the attorneys directly, such as Dick Scruggs (228 762 6068) or Andy Waters (214 357 6244, extension 230). Of course, we would appreciate having information about the Ritalin issues, too. You can always mail us anonymous material. Write to:
